Teeth brushing technique is simple but the sad part is that most of us fail to use it while brushing. Let us admit it; brushing teeth daily (although it is recommended that you clean your teeth twice in a day) is a monotonous job. What we fail to appreciate is that it is crucial for dental health and avoiding it or doing it the wrong way leads to many dental as well as other problems. What actually is the right way to clean your teeth? Before we go into the technique part the first that should be clear about is that you should clean your teeth for at least two minutes. Now, two minutes appears to be a very short time but the fact is that even those who are very careful about oral hygiene actually devote much less than that in brushing their teeth. The right way to brush is with short and gentle back and forth strokes as if sweeping away from the gum line. While you go about it you should ensure that you brush the gum line and also the back teeth that are hard to reach. Hold the brush head parallel to teeth while brushing and while cleaning use a circular motion. Make sure that you clean all teeth focusing at one section at a time. Use only a soft bristled toothbrush and toothpaste that contains fluoride. A toothbrush with a soft brush should be preferred as it allows you to brush each nook and corner.

Now that you know how to brush teeth it is also important that you know the different sections that you should focus on while cleaning. Clean the outside of upper and lower teeth first. Then clean the inside of both upper and lower teeth. With a circular motion clean the chewing surfaces.

While you brush your teeth, make sure to give one or two gentle strokes to your tongue also to remove bacteria and for a fresher breath. Changing your brush is as important as learning how to brush your teeth. Since toothbrushes wear out and become less effective change you toothbrush every three months.

If you use an electric toothbrush, then look for manufacturer’s instructions about how often you should change it. It is also important that you teach your kids teeth brushing techniques at an early age. Also tell them the importance of dental health. Kids are fast learners and more likely to retain the habit of brushing properly.

Oral hygiene is crucial to dental health. Besides brushing your teeth properly and regularly it is also imperative that you be careful about what you eat. Sugary snacks are the worst culprits that lead to cavities and tartar formation. Although of singular importance, daily brushing and teeth brushing technique is only a part of overall oral hygiene.
